Asteroid Vesta and Helix Nebula
On September 12, 1993 asteroid Vesta passed between earth
and the distant Helix planetary
nebula (NGC 7293) in Aquarius. Vesta (brightest "star" at the upper right) is the fourth largest asteroid at 510 kilometers in diameter. Its surface is covered with basalt indicating previous volcanic activity.
Photographic Data:
A 10-inch f/4.5 Newtonian telescope was used with
hypersensitized
Fujicolor HG 400 film. The single exposure was for 45 minutes. |
