Luxor
Temple
About 100 years ago Luxor Temple was discovered accidentally under a hill of
rubble. The original temple was built by Amenhotep III (1386 - 1349 BC)
and was dedicated to the trinity of Theban gods: Amen-Re, his wife Mut and
there son Khonsu.
.
The entrance to Luxor temple was marked by two obelisks. Currently, only
the one on the left can be seen. In 1831 Muhammed Ali gave the one on the
right to Louis Philippe and it now resides in the Place de la Concorde in
Paris, France (I have seen this one too). |
