                        This striking landmark (also named El Capitan by Kit

                        above the floor of Little Capitan Valley. Agathla 
                        (Navajo for "the place of the animal hides") is a  
                      
                        
                        
                        remnant core of an ancient volcano and 
                        unlike most of the surrounding red sandstone formations 
                        is made  
                      
                        
                        
                        of igneous rock.
