Very Large Array Radio Telescope

The Very Large Array (VLA) is a radio astronomy observatory located on the Plains of San Augustin (elevation: 6970 ft), some fifty miles west of Socorro, New Mexico, USA on U.S. Route 60.  It is part of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO).  Each dish is 82-feet in diameter and there are 27 of them in a Y-shaped configuration that moves on railroad tracks.
